In collaboration with Wongtee plaza,  Je Fine Art Space brings together twelve top Chinese contemporary artists to present a “rhapsody” of art. From traditionalink wash to images sourced from the internet, this exhibition represents thediversity of artistic languages in the Chinese contemporary art scene. Thisexhibition will exhibit the work of Cai Guangbin, Chen Yufan, Dai Yun, Liang Quan, Li Jikai, Luo Wei, Lin Xudong, Peng Benhao, Sun Yao, Xue Song, Xiao Fengand Ying Maike. Each artist embraces a different visual style but all address personal and spiritual questions, creating a resonance between them. Presentinga cross-section of contemporary artist’s anxieties, interests and enquiries into the world around them, Rhapsody explores the diversity of experiences inthe current age.

Cai Guangbin combines motifs from contemporary daily life such as QR codes with Chinese traditional ink wash techniques to present the everyday of modern people. Li Jikai’s lithe cartoon-like brushstrokes embody the anxiety of a generation in the process of modernization. While from the same generation, LuoWei finds a metaphor for reality in tiny, often neglected creatures. ChenYufan’s painterly installation extends from the two-dimensional plane into thethree-dimensional space, questioning the relationship between space and object.Once described as ‘light as tea’ Liang Quan’s collages of Chinese Xuan Paper create a world of emptiness, reflecting the artist’s inner world. Straddling the personal and the universal, Xue Song’s collaged landscapes presents his dialogue with history, both his own and the collective. More consumed with the world around him, Xiao Feng is infatuated with Han culture. His Jiang Nan landscape is an embodiment of the declining Han culture in the modern age.Similarly engaging with history, Dai Yun combines red & grey bricks from earlier dynasties to modernize historical artifacts. In the age of popular culture, he looks to history for inspiration. Peng Benhao, Lin Xudong and SunYao are all artists deeply connected to the earth. Lin Xudong’s leopard made with mechanical parts suggests a way out of the conflict between industrial civilization and the natural world. While Peng Benhao’s landscapes rediscover the sublime power of earth and nature. Sun Yao integrates portraits and landscapes into undulating lines. His transcendental visual space questions the relationship between human body and nature. Finally, Ying Maike’s abstract landscapes combined with deconstructed elements of cityscapes force us to question the rapid growth of cities.

Shenzhen Wongtee Plaza is located at the heart of Shenzhen CBD area. Connecting to thenearby Shenzhen Exhibition Centre, hotels and office buildings, Wongtee Plaza strives to be a place of engagement for the broader community. The exhibitionis a step towards Je Fine Art Space’s goal of bringing fine art to a broader Chinese community.
