T’ang Haywen
Je fine art Gallery’s art world
Known for his fusion of the Chinese spiritual aesthetic with Western abstract expressionism, artist T’ang Haywen regarded ink painting as a method of free expression. Born in 1927 in Xiamen, China, he was instilled with the spiritual tenets of Taoism from a young age by his grandfather. “One originates from Dao(the divine law), after one comes two, after two comes three, after three comes all things…let everything begin uninitiated and grow unpossessed”. T’ang’s distinct personality and unique view on life are formed under the influence of Taoism. Similar in appearance but different in essence to Balthus and Chevicheff, T’ang expressed his inner-self through an innovative approach opening up new possibilities for modern Chinese ink painting.Believing in the idea “you only live once”, T’ang lived in the way of Dao and stayed true to himself to embrace the world around him.
